A beautiful spring celebration filled with love, laughter, afternoon tea and one very sparkly dress!

Some wedding days are elegant and romantic. Some are full of laughter and unforgettable memories. And some manage to be all of those things at once.

For Gemma and Damon, their wedding day on 23rd May 2026 was exactly that — a beautiful, intimate spring celebration that began calmly and ended with plenty of dancing, laughter and partying.

After 16years together, their wedding was the perfect celebration of a love story that began long before they walked down the aisle.

‍

From School Friends to Forever

Gemma and Damon already knew each other from school, but it wasn't until they met again in Lloyds Bar in Stourbridge that their story really began.

Their relationship took a little while to develop. They were "just a bit more than friends" before eventually realising that perhaps they were meant to be together.

When they officially started their relationship, Gemma moved in with Damon that very same week — and she never looked back.

"We were young when we did start dating, so it was a rocky start," Gemma says, "but we've always been by each other's sides through it all."

Sixteen years, countless memories and a family later, they finally said "I do".

‍

A Simple,Sentimental Proposal

Damon proposed at home on Gemma's birthday around ten years ago, with their daughter sitting on his knee.

It wasn't an elaborate proposal — it was simply personal, intimate and very much them.

"Simple but cute," Gemma says.

And perhaps that perfectly sums up what they wanted from their wedding too.

‍

A Wedding That Was Beautifully Them

Gemma and Damon chose Sandwell Registry Office for their ceremony because they wanted something low-key and intimate.

They instantly loved the building, while the beautiful gardens provided the perfect setting for photographs afterwards.

For their reception, they chose Benjamins Banqueting Suite in Halesowen, keeping everything local and relaxed.

They fell in love with the banqueting suite, the room size and the food options — and the choice turned out to be perfect for the celebration they had imagined.

With 66 guests during the day and around 100 joining them in the evening, the day had a wonderfully intimate feel before transforming into a lively party.

Spring Afternoon Tea with a Dusky Colour Palette

The couple chose a beautiful Spring Afternoon Tea theme, incorporating a romantic colour palette of dusky pink, mauve pink and dark sage.

Rather than a traditional wedding breakfast, they embraced their theme completely with an afternoon tea of sandwiches and cake — accompanied, naturally, by wine!

The result was elegant, pretty and completely personal.

‍

Gemma describes their vision for the day as:

Cute, bougie and calm for the day… party hard for the evening." And, by all accounts, they absolutely nailed it.

‍

Finding The Dress at Dream Days Bridalwear

For Gemma, finding her wedding dress was a journey that didn't quite go according to her original plan — and that's exactly what made it so special.

She arrived at her first appointment with a "less is more" approach, imagining a dress with sleeves and expecting to keep things relatively simple.

But sometimes, the dress has other ideas. Gemma says she fell in love with her dress the moment she put it on. It featured a beautiful Bardot neckline, lace back and glittering details, finished witha crystal belt that allowed her to add her own personal touch. "I came out with a more is more dress and I loved it!"

"I think the dress chose me…"

Gemma had initially imagined an A-line dress, but she went into her appointment with an open mind and without a very specific vision.

That allowed her to explore styles she might not otherwise have considered.

At DreamDays Bridalwear, our bride worked with Kirsty, who listened carefully to what Gemma wanted and selected six dresses for her to try.

"She nailed every single one and they all looked amazing."

Gemma actually left the boutique without purchasing her dress because she had another appointment elsewhere.

But she couldn't stop thinking about the dress — or, more importantly, how it made her feel. "I went back for her the following weekend!"

We couldn't love that more.

Her experience is also a wonderful reminder that sometimes the dress you end up choosing isn't necessarily the one you imagined when you first started shopping. Being open to different silhouettes, details and styles can lead you to something even more magical.

‍

A Glittering Bridal Look

Gemma knew she wanted an A-line silhouette but allowed herself to be guided during her appointment. The finished look was glamorous, romantic and sparkling, with the Bardot neckline, lace detailing and crystal belt bringing everything together. "I always felt lovely whenever I tried it on," Gemma says, "but nothing will explain how I felt on the day itself.

And that's exactly what finding your wedding dress should feel like.

The Morning of the Wedding

The morning began exactly as you'd hope for a wedding morning — with croissants, Prosecco, a wedding playlist and plenty of pampering. There were lots of giggles along the way, creating the perfect atmosphere before the nerves really started to kick in. When it was finally time to walk down the aisle, Gemma felt nervous in the best possible way and incredibly emotional.

One of the moments that nearly broke her was watching her children walk towards their dad before she followed them.

"I barely held it together."

‍

The Moments They Will Never Forget

Of course, getting married was one of Gemma's favourite parts of the day, but it was the atmosphere of the entire celebration that made it so memorable.

Having all the people they love together in one room, laughing, dancing and celebrating with them was something they will treasure forever.

Their first dance was particularly emotional, as was Gemma's dance with her dad.

And when asked what part of the day she would relive if she could, Gemma chose two moments:

Their vows and their first dance.

"Felt like we were the only people in the room."

Beautifully put.

A Party to Remember

While the daytime was all about being calm, intimate and beautifully styled, the evening was time to let loose. And that's exactly what Gemma and Damon did. There was dancing, laughing and celebrating late into the night with their family and friends. Gemma says she couldn't possibly choose the funniest moment because they "laughed all night". It sounds like the perfect wedding party to us!

Planning Their Dream Day

The couple began planning their wedding around two years before the big day and were incredibly organised from the outset. All of their suppliers were booked around 12 months ahead, and they found that everyone involved was brilliant with communication throughout the planning process. They felt calm for most of the journey — although, naturally, those final weeks brought the realisation that it was all actually happening! Thankfully, everything came together beautifully.

Gemma's Advice to Future Brides & Grooms

When asked what advice she would give to newly engaged couples, Gemma's answer is one we couldn't agree with more:

"Honestly enjoy every second."

She encourages couples not to allow the stress of wedding planning to take over the reason they're getting married in the first place.

And perhaps most importantly:

"Don't plan your wedding to please others. Do what pleases you." Her other piece of advice? Start saving early.

Looking back, she wishes she had saved more money before booking suppliers, giving them a little more financial freedom along the way. As she says, two years can catchup with you quickly!

‍

What Made Their Wedding So Special?

For Gemma and Damon, it wasn't one particular decoration, venue or detail that made their wedding day special.

It was the people. Their family and friends were there from start to finish, surrounding them with love and kind words throughout the day. But perhaps the most special part of all was having their children beside them to watch their parents get married. After 16 years together, it was the perfect way to celebrate everything they had built together.

A Day They Would Do All Over Again

Looking back, Gemma describes their wedding as one of the best days of their lives— although, like so many newlyweds, she wishes it hadn't gone by quite so quickly. They had beautiful weather, gorgeous opportunities for photographs and wonderful people surrounding them. They laughed. They cried. They danced. They drank perhaps a little too much. They stayed up late opening cards filled with words of love.

 And the next morning?

"Soreheads and sore feet" — but a lifetime of memories to show for it.

‍

For Gemma and Damon, it was everything they wanted their wedding to be: beautiful, relaxed, personal and full of fun.

And if theycould do it all again?

"We would do it all over again in a heartbeat."
